Principal’s Report

Strategic Planning Day
The school has designated Tuesday 15th August as a “Student-Free Day” so that the staff can all work together to undertake the task of auditing areas of our school curriculum.  This type of collegial consultation is best done when most staff are available for a significant period of time, as opposed to numerous meetings after school. The results will be prioritised and included in the Education section of the school’s new Strategic Plan (2018-2020).

Parent/Teacher Interviews
Our Term 3 interviews are geared towards parents and teachers discussing and agreeing on the strategies between home and school that will be implemented during Semester Two to address the areas of improvement/enhancement that were identified during Semester One in both the Student Reports and Individual Learning Plans.

We have organised an excursion for the students on this day to give classroom teachers the opportunity to meet with parents throughout the day. Therefore, students should attend the school on this day during normal school hours. This has been done primarily for the convenience of our families, taking into account the Student-Free Day the following week (Tuesday 15th August) when it is important and necessary for our school staff to undertake a curriculum audit for our new Strategic Plan.

From Tuesday 1st August, there will be a table on the verandah outside the General Office each morning and afternoon with “Interview Sign-Up Sheets” for each teacher and the times they are available. If you cannot make it in person, the ‘Request for Interview’ reply slip you complete and return to the Office will ensure this process is completed for you. Please do so by Monday 7th August. We will send you a confirmation slip with an interview time immediately after receiving your request. Times will be allocated as requests are received.

Excursion
As mentioned above, instead of running our Parent/Teacher Interview Day as a student-free day, we have organised to take the students on an excursion that day.

In recent times, our students have been embracing and enjoying the opportunity to increase their level of participation in sporting activities organised by the school. We would like to enhance this enjoyment by giving our students the opportunity to have a “Sporting Day Out”, which includes touring one of the iconic sporting venues of the world.

On Wednesday 9th August, our students’ first stop will be the Holden Centre; Collingwood Football Club’s training headquarters. We will be given a guided tour of the facility and hopefully the students can see and meet some of the players. This special visit is by invitation only from the club, thanks to our participation in the Magpie Rookie Program earlier in the year.

At the conclusion of this tour, we will be walking across to the iconic MCG where we will participate in the following:

  • Self-guided National Sports Museum visit
  • Rotation through the 10 exhibition spaces
  • 30 minutes in the Game On interactive gallery
  • Guided tour of the stadium by an MCC Volunteer

An Excursion Consent Form has been sent home with details about the day.

We are looking forward to a wonderful day!!

KPDSA Term 3 Events

This Friday the Year 3/4 Girls Basketball Team will participate in a round-robin competition at Reservoir HS against other schools in the Year 3/4 Division from the Keon Park District Sports Association.

Next week we will be represented by Girls and Boys  teams in the Year 5/6 Division.

In a few weeks time, we have our students competing in an Indoor Soccer competition in the Year 3/4 and 5/6 Divisions.
